Live in Michigan? Vote Today! (365 Day Challenge – Day 15)

Live in Michigan? Vote Today!
Originally uploaded by Mac Girl

We’ve been royally screwed by both parties with regard to the Michigan Primaries. That said, every vote DOES, in fact, count.

If you’re Republican you’re in luck because 1/2 of your delegates will be seated at the convention – your vote counts for 1/2! If you’re Democrat your vote will not count at all at the convention (unless the party goes against it’s own rules and seats our delegates anyway) but the Press will be all over the results, declaring a win for “uncommitted” to be a blow to Hillary, and visa versa.

I’m not going to tell you how I vote or how you should vote. Thats between you and your Conscience. I’m just telling you to vote.

That’s not much to ask.

Pause And Reflect (365 Day Challenge – Day 14)

Wow I TOTALLY missed yesterday. That’s two days I’ve missed and we’re not even half way through January yet! How sad is THAT? (Answer: Very!)

I’m gonna keep going though — mostly because I’m stubborn, but also because I want lots of photos stacked up so that I can participate more in the 2008 Day-By-Day group more than I have for 2006 and 2007.

I managed to get some more books added to my LibraryThing bookshelf tonight. I’m up to 256 books and I’ve only done the main bookshelf so far! I still have a bookshelf in my office, two in the living room, and one in the dining room. Oh dear. 🙂

I also unearthed about 10 books that my friends have loaned me over the last couple of years. As soon as I finish my current library book I’m gonna have to tuck into those and return them. I’m such a bad borrower!!!

Busy day tomorrow! Voting in the oh-so-useless Michigan Democratic Primary (Thanks, MDP. Asshats.). then lunch with Lori and a little one-on-one Adobe Lightroom tutorial, then the Macworld keynote (!!), then errands, then dinner, then GRAMUG, then socializing afterward… I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

Hopefully I’ll manage to take at least one photo for my 365 to get the ball rolling again.

Lesson Learned (365 Day Challenge – Day 11)

Two Feet Away

If you take your camera with you to dinner intending to take your 365 shot and accidentally leave the CF card on your desk at home, you will find yourself sitting on the couch late at night so desperate for a subject so that you can post and go to bed that you give up and shoot your feet.

Let this be a lesson to you!

There will be a quiz later.

The Greats! (365 Day Challenge – Day 10)

The Greats!

When my dad sold his house last year I kept a lot of the books that I owned as a kid along with lots of stuff that he and I inherited from various relatives along the way.

It was a dizzying mix of subjects, genres, and authors. For example, my Nana – the very proper New England Episcopal priest’s wife – was heavily into Agatha Christie and Ian Fleming! Am I the only person who finds that odd?

Anyway, I’ve only just started really going through them and adding them to my LibraryThing.com collection, but I’m finding some real gems. Most of the sci-fi stuff is mine from when I was a kid – NO idea where the Heinlein first edition came from!! – and there are a bunch of classics, some collected Shakespeare and Mark Twain, a few old photography books of mine from the 80’s and one that my grandfather owned back in the day, lots of history and mythology, a couple of books about England, some biographies, birding books, gardening books, old hymnals, you name it. Great stuff!

And even some Heinlein… 🙂

Reprieve (365 Day Challenge – Day 9)

Shelf Life

I was sitting at my desk this morning wondering why it was so hard to read my monitor. Turns out I’ve forgotten how bright SUNLIGHT is!

Yes, actual sunlight. In Michigan. In January.

I KNOW! I was shocked too!

So I bundled up and headed out to Aman Park in Standale for some back-to-nature photography and a good long walk in the sun.

I was surprised how much green there was. Granted, the snow has all melted in our little mini heat wave this week, but I thought everything would be dormant, brown, and dead-looking. Not so! First off, there was a great deal of moss. Everywhere. There was also a lot of more or less green grass, and the odd plant or two trying desperately to poke through the carpet of dead leaves and soak up some much-needed radiation.

It was all good. I’d probably still be out there now if I hadn’t split my pants crawling (literally) over a log that had fallen across Trail B. That’s a humbling experience, let me tell ya! And a drafty one…

I’m glad I got out of the house today. The National Weather Service is predicting… well, in a word, CRAP through next Wednesday.

Remember, the next time you see the sun, run for it!

It’s Gonna Be A Looong Year! (365 Day Challenge – Day 8)

So here we are, Day 8 of 365, and it’s… oh, probably the fifth day where I’ve found myself at the end of the day with my figurative pants down and no photo to show for it.

Wait, that didn’t come out right.

Never mind.

I obviously need to get my photographic mojo going a little bit earlier in the day if I’m going to complete this challenge without just photographing the same seven things in my house every week….
