I’M EMPLOYED!!

Yes, UL Blog fans, the UL is gainfully employed again for the first time since the end of October, 2007. Woohoo! I’m planning a lot of things to celebrate (Bry, Shey, you guys ready to EAT SOME STEAK next week?) but the first thing I did to celebrate – no, the second, but this is a family blog so I can’t tell you what the first was – I finally downloaded a song that’s been sitting in my iTunes Music Store shopping cart, just waiting for this moment.

To all of those people who lifted me up when I was down, listened faithfully while I moped and complained, and yes, I’m sad to say bore the brunt of my ill temper during this hard few months of unemployment and uncertainty – you know who you are – I give you New Shoes” by Paolo Nutini. (Psst! Follow the link and buy it — you’ll LIKE it!!)

“New Shoes” by Paolo Nutini

Woke up cold one Tuesday
I’m looking tired and feeling quite sick
I felt like there was something missing
In my day to day life
So I
Quickly opened the wardrobe
Pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean
Topped it off with a pair of old shoes that were ripped around the seams
And I thought
These shoes just don’t suit me…

Hey, I put some new shoes on
And suddenly everything is right
I said
Hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody’s smiling
It’s so inviting
Oh, short on money but long on time
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine
And I’m
Running late and I don’t need an excuse to wear in my brand new shoes

Woke up late one Thursday
And I’m seeing stars as I’m rubbing my eyes
And I
Felt like there were two days missing
As I focused on the time
And I made my way to the kitchen
But I had to stop from the shock of what I found
A room full of all my friends all dancing ’round and ’round
And I thought
Hello new shoes
Bye bye blues!

Hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right
I said
Hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody’s smiling
It’s so inviting
Oh, short on money but long on time
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine
And I’m
Running late and I don’t need an excuse because I’m wearing my brand new shoes

Take me wondering through these streets
Where bright lights and angels meet
Stone to stone they take me on
I’m walking till the break of dawn

Take me wondering through these streets

Stone to stone they take me on
I’m walking till the break of dawn

Hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right

MAN DAY (365 Day Challenge – Day 5)

Tickling The Plastics

Every so often The Man and his best friend get together for “Man Day”.

Man Day consists of a meal or two, shopping at their favorite music stores (think Guitar Center not Virgin Records), and jammin’ a bit on the keyboards. Women are not allowed, so I usually get lost with Mrs. Best Friend but today she was busy and I had nothing to do.

The boys — er, MEN — were very generous, allowing me to go with them to brunch and dinner, and do a little shopping.

Thanks, guys. You both rock the house! 🙂

Sentimental FREAK

So I’ve just read a funky Reuters article about the most popular songs played at modern funerals and it got me thinking about what I would want played.

I don’t think I’d go with the crowd on this one. I’d want one of my favorite songs played instead of a song that says “goodbye” for me in someone else’s words. Either that, or I’d want a song that sent a particular message to the people who I know and love who have gathered to wish me well.

In that case The Dave Matthews Band’s “#40” is it.

So, if I know you or knew you, if we’re friends, relations, pals, coworkers, or just coffee buddies, this is for you. And if they take requests at my funeral (may that be many, many, many years away!) please make sure they slip this into the play list. For me. From me.

Thanks,
~Katie

#40 Tables turned again and you my friend
You and I face each other all time and time again
I know it’s sometimes hard, but knowing just
that we will get along until we’re old and gray
and huddled up and doubled up we’ll sit
And laugh of times were hard
Laugh of times when we thought all of it would end
It all was over, then again
And though all that I know is this way
And to leave you out of life
Oh my friend…
It will be you until the end with me, always
Always…
Ah ah will, always
Yeah ah, yeah ah, yeah
Always
